Deer damage :-(

Deer are beautiful and graceful, but boy howdy do they create a lot of damage to young fruit trees. During this dormat season, the young antlered males rub their horns on our young, pliable fruit trees; thus stripping the bark. The problem is…if enough bark is stripped from the tree, then the tree dies. This is a problem as we work really hard to nurture young trees for four years as they then start to bear fruit. Trees are our investment for future fruit production. We do work with the Fish and Game to deter the deer, but I guess the orchard is a fine place to bed down, eat newly sprouted leaves and cause havoc. We say a lot of bad words about deer.
